We have to take the band as they are. In the proper context, this is an exciting and ambitious concert.
The set lists had become stale and uninspired throughout this year. This third night had a great aura to it. Rosemont is a concrete audio nightmare. several unique songs, combos, blend of old and new, Ken Nordine, help> slip> franklins... That truckin> spoonful> he's gone is awfully good.
I get the lower ratings. I'm just here to tell you that although I have affection for all 120+ shows I saw between '79 -'95 one must place themselves within the limitations of this spring tour.

More new tunes appear here for the first time in Chicago: So Many Roads, Wave to the Wind, and Days Between. Jerry's two are phenomenal and Days Between, specifically, is a haunting, chilling and beautiful masterpiece. David Dodd wrote, in his song series aptly titled "The Greatest Stories Ever Told:" "'Days Between,' a late song in the Robert Hunter / Jerry Garcia songbook, was perhaps their last collaboration on a big, significant song, one that ranks with “Dark Star” and “Terrapin Station” as ambitious and intentionally grand." This show of course is best known for the guest appearance of Ken Nordine during Space for a recitation of Flibberty Jib and The Island. Nordine fits right in. I'll close by quoting Nordine, from this show, five stars for "the greatest band anywhere in the universe!"
